Yes, outstanding invoices for domain names always remain due and must be paid even if you have domain loss protection.

Domain loss protection ensures that your domain still belongs to you even if the fee for domain renewal isn’t paid on time or if something goes wrong with the payment for your domain renewal (e.g. an expired credit card).

However, if the invoice is not paid despite multiple reminders (loss protection service) and warnings, you will ultimately still face losing your domain.
