Step-by-step instructions for configuring your E-Mail account in Windows Live Mail.
If you have set up an E-Mail address in the Control Panel, you can configure this account in your Windows Live Mail.
E-Mail account administration
Click «Accounts» and then click the @ icon with the green + symbol to add a new account.
Adding an E-Mail account
First enter the full E-Mail address and the corresponding password you defined when setting up the E-Mail address in the Control Panel.
Click «Next» to automatically search for the correct settings and complete the account configuration.
If you want to check the settings yourself, check the box next to «Manual server settings configuration» and then click «Next».
Choosing the account type: POP3 or IMAP
Now choose between a POP3 or IMAP account.
- IMAP
- Using IMAP saves your E-Mails on the server. Each time you read an E-Mail, a copy is downloaded from the server.
- POP3
- Using POP3 downloads and saves your E-Mails to your Windows Live Mail. The messages are then deleted from the server. This way, you can also read your E-Mails offline at any time, for example if you are on the train.
If you are not certain choose IMAP.
IMAP configuration
For «Incoming server», enter imap.mail.hostpoint.ch and check the box next to «This server requires a secure connection (SSL)». The port for this is 993.
Under «Log on with», select «Log on using secure password authentication» and enter your full E-Mail address.
Enter asmtp.mail.hostpoint.ch for the «outgoing mail server» and check the box next to «This server requires a secure connection (SSL)». The port for this is 465. Also check the box next to «Requires authentication».
POP configuration
For «Incoming server», enter pop.mail.hostpoint.ch and check the box next to «This server requires a secure connection (SSL)». The port for this is 993.
Under «Log on with», select «Log on using secure password authentication» and enter your full E-Mail address.
Enter asmtp.mail.hostpoint.ch for the «outgoing mail server» and check the box next to «This server requires a secure connection (SSL)». The port for this is 465. Also check the box next to «Requires authentication».
Finish
Click «Next» to finish setting up your account.
