What do I have to do for my website to work with https?

There are several possibilities:

Automatic redirection from http to https

Log in to the control panel with your Hostpoint ID and choose the desired server. Click on "Websites" and then on "Edit" next to the desired website. Activate the checkbox "Forward all requests automatically to https:// (force SSL)". Doing so will forward all requests from e.g "http://www.my-own-domain.ch" to "https://www.my-own-domain.ch".

Protecting websites with .htaccess

The following entries should be written to the .htaccess file if you want to protect the website with SSL. If you do not have an .htaccess file, you can easily create one.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !=443
RewriteRule .* https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]

Protecting Wordpress with a plugin

Please install the Plugin Easy HTTPS Redirection and make the following settings:

Protecting Joomla with https

To secure Joomla with SSL, you do not require an additional plug-in; the Joomla system already supports the functionality. You can activate it in your Joomla configuration on the “Server” tab as shown in the screenshot. We recommend selecting “Entire website” in the dropdown menu to secure your entire website.
