When migrating from WordPress.com to Hostpoint, you can only migrate the WordPress content (articles, pages and comments) and not the installation itself (including databases).
Exporting data
- Log in at WordPress.com with your login credentials.
- Click on “Settings” in the dashboard.
- Select “Export data” to define the desired data for the export.
- Download the offered ZIP file.
- If you also want to export the media library, you can select this in the same window and also download the corresponding ZIP file.
Installing WordPress on your webhosting
- If you already have a web hosting at Hostpoint, you can log in to the Hostpoint Control Panel with your login credentials. If not, order a web hosting on our website first.
- Open your web hosting.
- Click on “Websites” > “One-click apps” in the menu on the left.
- Switch to the “Available apps” tab and install the desired version of WordPress. You can find more detailed instructions here: Install WordPress
Importing data
- Log in to the WordPress backend.
- Click on “Tools” > “Import data”.
- Select “WordPress” as system, click on “Install now" and then on “Run Importer”.
- Extract the previously downloaded files from WordPress.com, select the XML file and import it using “Update and Import File”.
- Define the author to which the imported articles will be assigned to and complete the import.
→ Your content is now available in the WordPress installation on your web hosting at Hostpoint.
