DNS stands for Domain Name System and is used to resolve domain names into IP addresses.

Because people can remember letters more easily than numbers, a system is required to convert ‘hostpoint.ch’ into ‘217.26.48.170’. This allows a computer to find the appropriate server, which can then take the user to the ‘hostpoint.ch’ website.
