What are name servers?

Name servers play a key role in Domain Name System (DNS) name resolution. They manage information about which IP addresses belong to which domains. When, for example, a domain is requested in an internet browser, the IP address required for this domain is requested via the registered name server. Provided that there is a DNS zone for the domain on the corresponding name server, then the IP address is passed on to the internet browser, which then attempts to retrieve the web page on the web server assigned to the respective IP address.

For domains registered with Hostpoint, the Hostpoint name servers are registered by default.

Detailed information about name servers can be found on Wikipedia.
