You can customize your domain’s name servers under domain administration in the Hostpoint Control Panel. However, this only applies to your main domain’s name servers. For changes to subdomains, please contact our support team.
To customize the name servers, follow these steps:
- Log in to the Hostpoint Control Panel with your Hostpoint ID.
- Open the menu item “Domains”.
- Click on “Edit” for the desired domain to access domain administration.
→ On the right side of the section with the same name, you can see the name servers that are currently stored for your domain. - - If the Hostpoint name servers are stored and you want to use external name servers, follow the steps under Use external name servers.
- If external name servers are stored and you want to use the Hostpoint name servers, follow the steps under Use Hostpoint name servers.
In this menu, you also have the option to deactivate a .ch or .li domain by deleting the registered name servers. The domain will then no longer be accessible. But you will remain the rightful owner until you cancel the contract.
Use external name servers
- Delete the Hostpoint name servers by clicking on the red X.
- Enter the names of the external name servers (1 server per line).
- Click on “Check name servers”.
→ A check is made to see whether the new name servers provide a response to your domain. - After a successful check, start the name server change by clicking “Change name server now”.
→ The name servers will then be changed.
Warning: Note: if the check fails and the following message is displayed, the domain has not yet been set up correctly on the new name servers.
“The specified name servers do not respond to the domain. Please make sure that the DNS zone of the domain is set up on the corresponding name servers.”
In this case, make sure that your domain or DNS zone is set up correctly on the specified name servers. Some top-level domains (e.g. .de) cannot otherwise be changed.
Use Hostpoint name servers
- Click “Reset to Hostpoint nameservers” to overwrite the external name servers.
→ Details about the Hostpoint name servers are displayed. - Click on “Check name servers”.
→ A check is made to see whether the new name servers provide a response to your domain. - After a successful check, start the name server change by clicking “Change name server now”.
→ The name servers will then be changed.
