You have the option of connecting to the server of your web hosting via either FTP or SFTP.
Connecting via FTP
Each web hosting account includes FTP access. It is possible to create individual FTP accounts in the Hostpoint Control Panel.
Use a common FTP client such as FileZilla (Windows, Mac, Linux) or Cyberduck (Mac) to connect to the server.
FTP server/host | Enter your domain in this field or, if it is still inactive, the host name which you can find in the Hostpoint Control Panel under “Services” > “Advanced” > “FTP” > “Settings” > “FTP server”. Example: Domain: ftp.your-own-domain.ch Host: sl100.web.hostpoint.ch |
Protocol | FTP |
Encryption | We always recommend using the “Explicit FTP over TLS” (FTP SSL) option if your client allows it. |
User name | Enter the FTP user name. |
Password | Enter the password of the FTP user. |
Port | 21 |
Connecting via SFTP (encrypted)
SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) offers encrypted data transfer via Secure Shell (SSH) and is therefore more secure than regular FTP.
The SFTP connection is supported by all of our web hosting products. However, the SFTP connection can only be established with the main FTP account. This explicitly requires using port 22. In addition, SSH access must be activated in the Hostpoint Control Panel (Webhosting > “Advanced” > “SSH access”).
The user name of the main FTP account can be found in the contract of the web hosting and the password is set by you in the Hostpoint Control Panel.
To do so, proceed as follows:
- Open your web hosting account.
- In the menu on the left, click on “Advanced” > “Password change”.
- Enter a new password for your hosting login.
- Click on “Change password”.
→ The new password has been set.
