If the remaining period of a domain can be taken over after the transfer depends on the domain ending and is specified by the respective registry.

In the case of .ch/.li domains, for example, the full remaining period (max. 12 months) is taken over and Hostpoint only charges you for the transferred domain after this remaining period has expired. The transfer itself is free of charge.

In the case of gTLDs (.com, .net, .org, .biz and .info) as well as newer gTLDs (e.g. .blog, .shop, etc.), the remaining period of validity is generally also transferred, but the domain is automatically renewed for one year during the transfer process. The transfer process is also free of charge, but the renewal is charged.

However, there are also domain transfers for which the contract period cannot be transferred. These are mostly transfers of country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs). For .de domains, for example, the contract period is adjusted to the transfer date.
