Overview
As part of the implementation of the European NIS2 Directive, the German domain registry DENIC eG has introduced new requirements for the verification of domain owner data. The aim is to increase the security and trustworthiness of .de domains and to prevent abusive registrations.
As a result, .de domain owners may be asked to verify their contact details or provide additional evidence.
Why does my .de domain need to be verified?
The NIS2 Directive requires registries to ensure that registrant details are complete, accurate and verifiable. DENIC therefore carries out regular plausibility and risk checks.
Verification may be required, for example, if:
- Contact details are incomplete
- Address information cannot be clearly verified
- An e-mail address or telephone number is missing or appears invalid
- Changes are made to the owner details
- The registration is reviewed as part of a random audit
- Anomalies are identified during a risk assessment
Which details must be accurate?
For .de domains, the following information must be current and correct:
- Full name of the domain owner
- Company name, including legal form (for companies)
- Postal address
- E-mail address
- Telephone number
Please ensure that all these details are up to date at all times. You can review them in the Hostpoint Control Panel under “Admin” > “Hostpoint ID” > “Contact details” and make changes if necessary.
How does the verification process work?
If your domain requires verification, you will receive an e-mail from noreply@ascio.com asking you to verify the owner details for your .de domain. The subject of the e-mail will be “Action required: Verify Your Identity for .de Domain {DOMAIN}”.
To verify, please follow these steps:
- Check your contact details in the Hostpoint Control Panel under “Admin” > “Hostpoint ID” > “Contact details”. Make sure that all data is up to date and contains no typos.
- Click the link you have received from Ascio and upload the required documents.
Please note: In the e-mail from Ascio, note which details you need to verify (see “Information to verify”). You may need to upload more than one document. If you need to verify “address and name”, for example, a copy of your ID card or passport will not be sufficient.
Possible forms of proof include:
For private individuals
- Identity card or passport (only verifies name)
- Recent utility bill (e.g. copy of a phone bill → verifies name and address)
- Account statement with address (verifies name and address)
For companies
- Commercial register extract
- Business registration certificate
- Company formation documents
- Other official company proofs
What happens if I don’t complete the verification process?
If you don’t complete the requested verification process by the specified deadline, your domain may be blocked or even deleted.
We therefore recommend that you complete the verification process as soon as possible.
Is the verification request genuine?
DENIC currently sends verification requests to domain owners via the respective registrar. If you receive such a notification, it is most likely not phishing. However, always check the sender carefully and only follow the instructions of your registrar.
If you registered your .de domain via Hostpoint, the verification request will be sent by noreply@ascio.com Ascio is our partner and provides the interface to DENIC. The subject of the e-mail will be “Action required: Verify Your Identity for .de Domain {DOMAIN}”.
In this exceptional case, the message and the link in it beginning with https://launch-workflow.trulioo.com are trustworthy and verification is actually required. If you have ignored or already deleted the e-mail, we can send it to you again.

No, the requirements apply to both newly registered and existing .de domains.

DENIC will carry out regular checks in future and may ask domain owners to confirm their data in certain cases.
