Migrating your website, domains and e-mails generally works as follows:
- Request: You’ve already thought about migrating to Hostpoint and perhaps visited the product page for our migration service. Then you send a migration request to our support team while using the relevant form on our website.
- Discussion: We contact you by phone or e-mail. We clarify with you which services (website, domain, e-mail accounts) need to be migrated and whether the necessary prerequisites have been met. We also give you an idea of how long the migration should take. If you wish, you can also set a specific migration date.
- First steps: Our staff prepare for the migration of your website by testing your login details and creating a backup of all your data.
- Migration: Now it’s time to migrate your website. We import your website, including all data, into the new web hosting account that you previously ordered from Hostpoint. We then make the necessary adjustments to the configuration of your website.
Also, we set up your previous e-mail addresses again and copy all e-mail messages to the new mailboxes.
The domain can be transferred at any time. You can set the time at the first meeting with our migration specialists. - Check: As soon as your data has been migrated to Hostpoint, the migration team checks the website with you.
- Website switchover: After the check, we carry out the final switchover of your website. This means that your website is switched to the desired domain and the name servers are changed to Hostpoint.
If your domain is already registered with Hostpoint, we take care of this step for you. However, if the domain is registered with another provider, you will have to update the name servers yourself. We are happy to assist you with this. It can take up to 24 hours for the name server change to go through.
When you then access your website, it will be hosted on Hostpoint servers. - Final acceptance: In a final step, you confirm that your website is working as expected and you are happy with the outcome.
After your confirmation, the order is completed and all login data and the data of your previous website are destroyed. Further information can be found in the article on data protection.
