Would you like to use our migration service to transfer your website, domains and e-mails to Hostpoint? This article explains what information we require and the things you need to do for the migration to go as efficiently and effectively as possible.
When you order a new web hosting account, you can make use of our migration service free of charge. This supports you in migrating your website, domains and e-mails from your current provider to Hostpoint. As an existing Hostpoint customer, you can also take advantage of the migration service free of charge when you sign a new web hosting contract.
Migration from an external provider to Hostpoint
Before the migration
- Think about which services you wish to migrate (website, domain names, e-mail accounts).
- If you would like to migrate your website to Hostpoint, you can make your current website available by providing the following:
- An up-to-date backup of your website (incl. all files and the database) via the Explorer in the Hostpoint Control Panel
or - FTP (server name, user name, password) and database (user, password) login details for your current web hosting account. It is best to create a separate FTP user for the move. You can use the Hostpoint SafePad to securely transmit the login data to our support team.
- An up-to-date backup of your website (incl. all files and the database) via the Explorer in the Hostpoint Control Panel
- E-mail migration only: Make a note of the login details for all e-mail accounts that you wish to migrate (e-mail addresses and passwords). We will be happy to help you move your e-mails with Audriga.
Note: E-mails fetched via POP3 are only stored locally and therefore cannot be migrated automatically. In this case, we recommend that you export the e-mails from your e-mail program and import them into the new e-mail account after setup. You can find out more on this in the article on the transfer of e-mail accounts. - Domain transfer only: We need the transfer code (Auth-Code) for your domain. You can obtain this from your current domain registrar, either directly in the control panel or by giving them a call. Transferring your domain to Hostpoint makes it easier for us to complete the timely migration of your website.
Note: Any transfer blockages or special conditions for the transfer must be taken into account. - Externally managed domains only: You need access to your domain registrar’s domain administration to update the name servers.
Note: You do not need to worry about this if you transfer your domain to Hostpoint (see point above).
After the migration
- Change the passwords for all logins for which the login details have been shared with third parties (including Hostpoint employees).
- Externally managed domains only: Change the DNS settings with your domain registrar.
Note: If you also transfer your domain to Hostpoint, you do not need to change any DNS settings. In this case, Hostpoint automatically configures the correct DNS settings. - Confirm the successful migration of the website to the relevant person in the Hostpoint team by e-mail.
- Cancel the relevant contracts with your previous web hosting provider, domain registrar and/or e-mail provider.
Migration within Hostpoint
If you only want to migrate your website, domains and e-mails internally, i.e. from an existing web hosting account with Hostpoint to a new one, we require the following information from you:
- Which services (website, domain names, e-mails) would you like to migrate?
- From which web hosting account (origin) to which web hosting account (destination) should the data be transferred?
If the origin and destination web hosting accounts are not with the same person, you will have to request a change of ownership.
