Migration from an external web hosting provider to Hostpoint

To migrate from an external web hosting provider to Hostpoint, we recommend our migration service Audriga. This service transfers all e-mails automatically.

Moving from one Hostpoint web hosting to another

To migrate e-mail addresses to a different web hosting account with Hostpoint, we recommend using an e-mail client such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Mail.

Outlook

If you use Outlook, you can export and import e-mail messages as soon as the e-mail address has been moved to the new web hosting account. Microsoft offers specific instructions for exporting and importing:

Apple Mail

If you use Apple Mail, you can export and import e-mail messages as soon as the e-mail address has been moved to the new web hosting account.

To export messages from Apple Mail:

  1. Select the desired mailbox.
  2. Click on “Mailbox” in the menu at the top followed by “Export mailbox…”. Alternatively, right-click on the folder and select “Export mailbox…” directly.
  3. Then select the desired location for the export file and confirm the export by clicking “Select”. The exported mailbox is saved with the name of your mailbox in mbox format.

Importing messages to Apple Mail:

  1. Click on “File” in the menu at the top followed by “Import mailboxes…”.
  2. Select “Files in mbox format” and continue.
  3. Navigate to the folder where the export file was saved and select the appropriate file.
  4. Confirm the import by clicking “Select”.
  5. The data is imported into a local folder in Apple Mail. From there, you can drag the e-mail messages to the desired e-mail account.

Thunderbird

If you use Thunderbird, you can export e-mail messages and then import them again as soon as the e-mail address has been migrated to the new web hosting account.

To export messages from Thunderbird:

  1. Select the desired messages.
  2. In the “File” menu, click “Save As” and select the “File…” option.
  3. Then select the desired location for the export file and confirm the selection by clicking “Open”.
  4. All messages are now saved as individual files in the selected folder.

To import messages to Thunderbird:

  1. Select the desired mailbox and e-mail folder to be used for importing the files.
  2. Open the saved messages folder.
  3. Drag and drop the .eml files directly into the selected e-mail folder in Thunderbird.
