Have you created an e-mail address in the Hostpoint Control Panel and now want to set it up on your Android smartphone? We’ll show you how in this article – one step at a time.

Android smartphones already come with an e-mail app installed by default, such as Samsung Mail or Gmail. However, there are countless other e-mail apps that can be downloaded from the App Store. As an alternative, we recommend the apps “K-9 Mail” and “FairEmail”. Both are open-source applications with data protection at the forefront.

The process for setting up an e-mail account varies from app to app, but the connection details for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP remain the same.

In this guide, we’ll show you as an example how to set up your e-mail account in the Gmail app.

E-mail account management

  1. On your smartphone, open the Gmail app and tap your profile at the top right.
  2. Tap “Add another account”.

Select account type

  1. Now select either an IMAP or POP3 account:
    • IMAP: by choosing IMAP, your e-mails are stored on the server. Each time you read an e-mail, a copy is downloaded from the server.
    • POP3: by choosing POP3, your e-mails are downloaded to and saved on your smartphone. The messages are then deleted from the server. This allows you to read your e-mails at any time, even if you are not connected to the internet.
If you are unsure, select “Personal (IMAP)”.
