Would you like to access your e-mails with your preferred e-mail program? If so, our e-mail assistant has the perfect step-by-step instructions for you.
If there are no instructions for your e-mail program or if you are experiencing configuration problems, you can find the connection settings you need in this article.
Reading e-mails with IMAP
Connection settings
IMAP server | imap.mail.hostpoint.ch |
Username | Your e-mail address (e.g. your.name@your-own-domain.ch) |
Password | The password you selected in the Control Panel. |
Login mechanism | Use the “CLEAR TEXT” authentication method. |
Port | 143 unencrypted or encrypted with STARTTLS 993 encrypted with SSL |
Special IMAP settings
If your account was set up after June 1, 2014, you do not need to include a specific IMAP prefix. The system automatically creates it correctly.
If your account was created before June 1, 2014, special IMAP settings are required. To prevent additional mail folders from appearing as subfolders of your inbox in your e-mail program, many e-mail programs let you set the IMAP path prefix to INBOX or INBOX. (with or without a period at the end, depending on the e-mail program).
Reading e-mails with POP
Connection settings
Note: If you want to access your emails on multiple devices, we recommend using IMAP instead of POP. More information on the difference between the two protocols can be found in this article.

Password | The password you selected in the Control Panel. |
Login mechanism | Use the “CLEAR TEXT” authentication method. |
Port | 110 unencrypted or encrypted with STARTTLS 995 encrypted with SSL |
Sending e-mails via SMTP
Connection settings
SMTP server | asmtp.mail.hostpoint.ch |
SMTP authentification | Must be activated |
Username | Your e-mail address (e.g. your.name@your-own-domain.ch) |
Password | The password you selected in the Control Panel. |
Login mechanism | Use the “PLAIN” authentication method. |
Port | 587 unencrypted or encrypted with STARTTLS 465 encrypted with SSL |
Security
We recommend using SSL or TLS to encrypt your IMAP, POP and SMTP connections. This ensures that data exchanged between your e-mail program and the server cannot be read by third parties, meaning that your login details and e-mails are protected.
These instructions explain how to protect your e-mail accounts with SSL.
