Have you created an e-mail address in the Hostpoint Control Panel and now want to set it up on your Android smartphone? We’ll show you how in this article – one step at a time.
Android smartphones already come with an e-mail app installed by default, such as Samsung Mail or Gmail. However, there are countless other e-mail apps that can be downloaded from the App Store. As a data protection-friendly alternative, we recommend the “K-9 Mail” app, for example.
The process for setting up an e-mail account varies from app to app, but the connection details for IMAP, POP3, and SMTP remain the same.
In this guide, we’ll show you as an example how to set up your e-mail account in the Gmail app.
E-mail account management
- On your smartphone, open the Gmail app and tap your profile at the top right.
- Tap “Add another account”.
Adding an e-mail account
- Tap “Other”.
- Enter your e-mail address and tap “Manual setup”.
Select account type
- Now select either an IMAP or POP3 account:
- IMAP: by choosing IMAP, your e-mails are stored on the server. Each time you read an e-mail, a copy is downloaded from the server.
- POP3: by choosing POP3, your e-mails are downloaded to and saved on your smartphone. The messages are then deleted from the server. This allows you to read your e-mails at any time, even if you are not connected to the internet.
- Enter the password you have set for your e-mail address in the Hostpoint Control Panel and tap “Next”.
→ If you have selected IMAP as your account type, follow the steps in 3.1.
→ If you have selected POP3 as your account type, follow the steps in 3.2.
IMAP
In the “Server” field, enter the server address imap.mail.hostpoint.ch and tap “Next”.
POP3
Enter the server address pop.mail.hostpoint.ch in the “Server” field. You can also decide whether to delete your e-mails from the server when you delete them from your inbox.
Outgoing mail server
In the “SMTP server” field, enter the server address asmtp.mail.hostpoint.ch and tap “Next”.
Complete account setup
- Set your desired synchronization and notification settings and tap “Next”.
- Give your account a name. This name is displayed as the sender when sending e-mails.
- Tap “Next” to complete the setup of your e-mail account.
→ The setup has been completed. You can now send e-mails with the e-mail address you have set up.
Encryption
Finally, the encryption of the e-mail account must be checked.
Follow these steps:
- Tap your profile at the top right, and then tap “Manage accounts on this device.”
- Select your e-mail account.
- Tap “Account settings”.
- Select your e-mail account.
- Scroll down to “Server settings”.
