To prevent fraudulent senders and phishing abuse, you can create what are known as SPF records (sender policy framework) for a domain. The SPF record of a domain defines which mail servers and IP addresses are allowed to send e-mails from the particular domain.
SPF record with Hostpoint mailserver
- Log into your Hostpoint Control Panel with your Hostpoint ID.
- Click on "Domains" in the menu at the top.
→ The overview shows a list of your domains. - Click on "Edit DNS Zone" under the desired domain and scroll down a little.
- Click "Add Hostpoint SPF record".
→ The correct SPF record will be added automatically. - Click "Execute now" to save the SPF record.
→ It takes about 5 to 10 minutes until the entry is active.
SPF record with external mailserver
If you don't use the Hostpoint mailservers, you must add your own SPF record.
- Click on "Add new record"
- Select the record type «TXT».
- Enter your SPF record in the «Text» field and then click on «Add Record».
Note: In this case, you will receive the appropriate SPF record from your e-mail provider.
SPF record for externally registered domains
If your domain is not registered with Hostpoint, but you use the Hostpoint e-mail service, please add the following TXT record to the DNS zone of your domain:
v=spf1 redirect=spf.mail.hostpoint.ch
Combined SPF record
The default SPF record v=spf1 redirect=spf.mail.hostpoint.ch can also be combined with other SPF records. This is necessary, for example, if you operate your webshop at Hostpoint but use a different provider for your emails.
A combined SPF record looks like this:
v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com redirect=spf.mail.hostpoint.ch
In this example, both the Hostpoint and Outlook mail servers are permitted for sending emails.
The following conditions must be met for a combined SPF record:
- The "redirect" is at the end of the entry.
- There is no second "redirect" in the entry.
- There is no "all" in the entry (e.g. -all, ~all, ?all).
