DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance and is a method for protecting e-mail traffic. Unfortunately, scammers often send fake e-mails that appear to come from a trusted sender in an attempt to gain access to confidential data or spread malware. This type of scam is also referred to as phishing.
With DMARC, domain owners can set policies that instruct recipient mail servers on how to handle e-mails that do not actually originate from their domain. This makes it harder to deliver fraudulent e-mails and increases e-mail security.
Further information can be found in our detailed article on DMARC.
Domain is managed by Hostpoint
Please follow these steps to activate DMARC for a domain managed by Hostpoint:
- Log into the Hostpoint Control Panel with your Hostpoint ID.
- Click “Domains” in the menu at the top.
→ You will see a list of all your domains. - Click “Edit” for the desired domain.
- Click “Configure e-mail security” in the “E-mail security” section.
→ The status of the settings for this domain is shown. - Activate DMARC.
- If required, repeat the process for other domains.
→ DMARC has been activated for the domain. A DMARC record has been added automatically in the domain’s DNS zone.
Domain with external name servers
If you use Hostpoint for your e-mail traffic but have external name servers for your domain, you must activate DMARC with your external provider. If you need assistance with this, please contact the respective provider directly.
If your external provider does not support DMARC, you are also welcome to transfer your domain to Hostpoint. Find out how this works in our domain transfer article.
